River lives

Well, River has come home from doggie hospital. Miraculously she managed to survive a "head" on collision with a vehicle out on hwy 30 where she wandered unbeknownst to us Friday night. Her jaw is broken in many places, there are screws and rods holding it together for a couple of months. Some of her teeth are gone or had to be ground down to allow for her permanently messed up bite. Two of her toes are broken. She is home drooling up her pain meds but I think she is happy to be here. The vet and our family concluded that even this probably wouldn't teach her not to wander. And the vet decided the head bonk probably wouldn't alter her personality at all, which I guess says something about her personality...
Below is one of the new members of our household. Homer belongs to Kenya, the 18 year old who has moved in with us, probably I'm guessing through the summer.

Poor River.
I think that maybe she will have learned her lesson and not go as far as Rt. 30 again.
It is a miracle that she is still alive.
Homer is cute.
You are lucky to have Kenya there to help with River!
love,
Gran
p.s. I removed my first post due to a big spelling error.

Hugs et al to River. We hope her recovery is as complete as possible and without any complications.

Given the circumstances, she's a very lucky dog.
